What up, it's been an active free agency period in the NFL. The windfall dough of the new CBA allowed for the majority of the league to make some impact in the market. There was a lot of money throw around this last month. The ability to acquire talent comes mostly from bonus cash, fuck what ya heard about winning, most any signing is based on the first two years of guaranteed money/roster bonuses. Here's a list of the most important transactions of the off-season so far;

• Edge signed in Zona because of paper. They are a better team because of him, but that o-line is dairy queen soft.

• The Browns coach Romeo convinced several ex patriots and two top free agents to sign in Cleveland. Bentley, McGinest and Jurevicius will instantly improve that team’s talent and experience.

• Terrell Owens gets the final laugh in the Eagles saga, joining the confederacy. If the Cowboys had a Brees or even Kitna type QB they’d be a true threat for a ring. I don't believe this team is a true contender though, they need to prove that their undersized defense can hold up all season.

• The Saints convinced Brees to take the team and city on his back. The Chargers now rest all of that offensive talent on Rivers, a player that has never taken an important snap. Many are now downgrading Gates a little bit, I keep him the same or even elevate his draft status. A young QB often relies on his safest targets, look for Gates and LT to see high receptions even if the wins don't match the Brees era. Brees will play well as long as Duece is healthy.

• Childress and the Vikings gave up on Daunte before he even threw for them.
Instead they decided to spread their money on several key acquisitions. The Vikings will be a very good team under Childress. Their defense was excellent at the end of last season, and their offense is gaining an identity for the first time since Randy left. I believe they win the Central.

• They used the Daunte cap number for some major signings that seem to have set a precedent in transition player/restricted free agent signings. The Vikings signed the best guard in football in Steve Hutchinson. The signing came as a surprise to the Seahawks, who had tabbed Hutch as their transition player, guaranteeing Hutch a one year deal at the average of the top 10 highest paid guards in the league or 120% of his previous year, which ever greater. The Viking used a clause in their offer sheet dubbed the “poison pill” loophole to guarantee Hutchinson be the highest paid guard at any time during his contract or the full 7-year 49 million is guaranteed. The Seahawks were forced not to match the offer.

• In return the Seahawks then offer Burleson a poison pill deal for 7-years 49 million. NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue vowed to close the "poison pill" loophole that has affected Nate Burleson and Steve Hutchinson's recent contracts.
Tags says that Steve Hutchinson's recent contract violates the spirit of the collective bargaining agreement. "The 'spirit' of anything is subjective," Vikings VP of football operations Rob Brzezinski said.

• Saban now has the right QB for his system. Watch out for Ronnie Brown, Chambers and Daunte this season, they could all be steals in fantasy drafts this season.

Teams change faster than ever these days. The league has engineered a way to create true parity. Perception of a franchise can be altered with one signing period or a solid draft. The Cowboys now possess footballs greatest weapon. The Cardinals have Edge? I would have never believed that. But the landscape is constantly changing and teams decline while others reform. Many questions surround perennial favirotes New England and Philly. While Cincinati and Carolina are poised to become legit contenders. This chaos and change is what makes the NFL popular. Teams can reinvent themselves quickly.

I'll post a positional ranking of the NBA and NFL soon
